Art/Act: Youth – Symbiotic Cities

The David Brower Center is pleased to present the 2025 Art/Act: Youth exhibition, Symbiotic Cities, featuring artwork by 147 students from Berkeley High School, Richmond High School, and Skyline High School exploring their visions for blue and green spaces in urban areas. Through an interdisciplinary, research-based creative process, students pose questions, explore future possibilities, and express their unique perspectives on climate issues that matter to them.
This year, we invited students to reflect on the importance of urban blue and green spaces—the water- and plant-focused land areas in our cities that bridge the built environment and the natural world. We asked students, why do these places matter to us? Who can access them? What are these places like, and what could they be like if we valued them with more care? Students returned with artworks that were sharply aware of the reality of those spaces closest to them while open to possibilities for a different future. Their art gives us a glimpse into new kinds of cities, where greenery and water are accessible for all, woven into our homes and city structures.
Exhibition Dates: February 24 - May 15, 2025
