A Coahuiltecan/Chicano artist based in Sacramento, CA, Dominick Porras has been active as a community digital artist for the past 17 years working with various art media, from textiles to murals. He is co-founder of Sol Collective and a Digital Creative for On Native Ground. Currently, Porras attends the Institute of American Indian Arts for a Studio Arts MFA ‘23 with a focus on virtual 3D media and animation. As a digital 3D artist and animator, he cultivates abstract figures and forms into reflective observations that can be experienced through virtual interaction.
Inspired by the virtual reality works of First Nations artists like Skawenatti and Kent Monkman, Porras pushes an Indigenous perspective focused on cultural reclamation from institutional stewardship. He utilizes digital media and prints to unite and intersect community activism through art.
Dominick Porras continues to explore cinematography, augmented reality, and other art forms with Sacramento art and education organizations and tribal communities.
